ARES – Amateur Radio Emergency Service

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) consists of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment, with their local ARES leadership, for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes.

Every licensed amateur, regardless of membership in ARRL or any other local or national organization is eligible to apply for membership in ARES.  Training may be required or desired to participate fully in ARES.  Please inquire at the local level for specific information.  Because ARES is an Amateur Radio program, only licensed radio amateurs are eligible for membership. The possession of emergency-powered equipment is desirable, but is not a requirement for membership.

You are encouraged to join Loudoun County ARES (LCARES) by submitting an application to our Loudoun ARES Emergency Coordinator. Currently the ARES coordinator is Scott Morse, WB6EFW. In addition to the communication you receive as being in a club member you will also be put on lists for the various ARES area events.

The Loudoun County Amateur Radio Emergency Servies (LCARES) NET is held every Tuesday at 7pm on the WB6EFW repeater in Ashburn VA on 145.185 MHZ, offset -600 KHZ and tone of 103.5

The purpose of the LCARES net is to discuss: training activities, plans for future exercises, and technical concepts related to providing emergency communications services to Loudoun County and other served agencies when needed.
